Description:

North America, probably Mexico, Spanish Colonial period, ca. early 19th century CE. A forged-steel saber with a single-edged blade bearing a thick spine and a shallow fuller running down roughly three-quarters of the length. The barrel-shaped wooden handle is incised with several slender ringlets, housed between squat cylindrical caps, and secured within the terminals of a steel swept-hilt guard. Fine patina covers the entire weapon. One blade shoulder is inscribed with "WieG." Size: 4.25" W x 35.2" H (10.8 cm x 89.4 cm); (blade): 31.125" L (79.1 cm).
