**First Time At Auction**

Western Europe, France, ca. second quarter of the 19th century CE. A forged-steel cutlass used by members of the French Navy when boarding enemy vessels. The lengthy weapon consists of a gently curved blade with a shallow fuller and a single edge that culminates in a pointed tip. Engraved on each shoulder is a large anchor, and stamped onto one side of the blade base are the letters "G" and "B." The octagonal iron hilt is covered by a cupped guard to protect the soldier's hand, and the form-fitting pommel rests along the bottom of the handle. Size: 31.9" L x 5" W (81 cm x 12.7 cm)
