Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Western Europe, France, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An interesting, miniature cast iron cannon used for signaling. This is a spring-loaded gun shaped like a cannon and the barrel rests on a base that has two bolt holes, perhaps for attaching the gun to a flat surface. The front half of the barrel swings open for receiving a 12-gauge shot gun cartridge. On the butt end is a spring ring and a pin that would trigger the spring release. On the top is a makers' mark "MF" for Manufrance, a mail order company specializing in shotguns. The underside of the base is open, and the spring mechanism is visible. These were intended for blank cartridges to fire warning shots only, and included is a spent casing. Size: 7" L x 3" W x 2.25" H (17.8 cm x 7.6 cm x 5.7 cm)
