Description:

Dong Son, Vietnam, ca. 1000 to 1 BCE. This is a triangular, cast molded bronze spearhead with a long cartridge and four small open slits, two on either side of the central axis. This spearhead is socketed, with dirt encrustation and possibly some broken ancient wood stuck inside of it. This is a typical example of spearheads from The Dong Son (or Dongson, or Ðông Son) culture thrived in northern Vietnam and its burials, rich in bonze goods, demonstrate a high level of wealth relative to neighboring areas. A very similar example to this piece is held by the Musée Cernuschi (Museum of the Asian Arts of Paris). Size: 11.75" L x 2.45" W (29.8 cm x 6.2 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
