Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a fun piece of ancient pottery, a small figure made to be placed inside of a shaft tomb as a guardian or intermediary of the dead. He is seated, with clear phallus, arms spread with the characteristic Jalisco "bumpy" texture on the shoulders that may represent ritual scarification. His face has an elongated nose, which has led some people to characterize these figures as "sheepface". Size: 3.7" W x 5" H (9.4 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Peter Arnovick, Los Altos, CA
