South America, Urugay, millions and millions of years old. A huge amethyst crystal quartz cluster, a natural mineral specimen lining the interior of a conical geode. The name of this popular purple gemstone is Greek in origin and means "not drunken." Some scholars suggest that this was due to the belief that Amethyst had the power to stave off the effects of alcohol; however, most believe that the Greeks were probably referring to the near wine-like hue of some amethyst stones. The deeply saturated violet coloring of this specimen is absolutely breathtaking. A "Rock of Ages" that is probably hundreds of millions of years old. Truly a remarkable work of natural art presented upon a custom, museum-quality stand.
