Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An absolutely gorgeous celt which is hand-carved from a sparkling creamy white and pale grey piece of quartz. The rectangular celt has a sharpened lower blade edge - hence the name "axe god" - which gently tapers towards a thick head. The head and wings/arms are both carved and incised, with the incised lines creating additional details to the elegant form. With a biconically-drilled suspension hole on the neck that enabled this celt to be worn as a pendant. The natural beauty of the stone combined with the incised features makes this a special example of a classic Costa Rican form! Size: 2.25" W x 5.4" H (5.7 cm x 13.7 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) on included custom stand.
