Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 1st to 5th century CE. A hand-carved greenstone pendant depicting a characteristically abstract human, standing with fused legs, who holds both hands together atop the planar chest. Shallow grooves formed via the string-cutting method comprise the geometric facial features and tapered brow. Drilled through the neck for suspension. Size: 0.75" L x 2.3" W x 5.9" H (1.9 cm x 5.8 cm x 15 cm); 6.6" H (16.8 cm) on included custom stand.
