Description:

Corneille Guillaume Beverloo (Liege, Belgium, 1922-2010), untitled serigraph, 18/180, 1969 CE. A fabulously expressionistic and colorful serigraph by the Dutch artist and poet best known by his pseudonym Corneille, numbered 18 of 180 in pencil on the lower left margin and signed and dated in pencil by the artist on the lower right margin. The lively composition depicts two topless women standing on a patch of green grass beside an abstract blooming tree or flower, the friendly pair holding hands before a golden yellow, sunny sky. Corneille, who drew inspiration from the poetic oeuvres of Paul Klee and Joan Miro, studied at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, was a founding member of the avant-garde REFLEX movement in 1948, as well as a founding member of the COBRA movement. Reflecting the tenets of these movements, Corneille's artwork reflects a rejection of naturalism as well as a denouncement of non-objective abstraction in favor of spontaneity and experimentation with figure, form, and color. Size: 12.375" W x 16.75" H (31.4 cm x 42.5 cm)
