Near East/Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus, with Romanus I and Christopher. Reigned 913 to 959. Struck ca. 924 to 931 CE. Constantinople mint. Gold Solidus. Obverse: Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing. Reverse:  Crowned facing busts of Romanus, wearing loros, and Christopher, draped, holding patriarchal cross between them. The writings of Constantine VII are noted as one of the best sources of information on the Byzantine Empire and its neighboring areas. Constantine VII had a strong passion for learning and writing that continued until he was almost 40, when he became sole emperor.
