Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery reclinatario depicting an abstract avian creature with a slender beak. The piece rests upon a broad frontal flange, perhaps the tail of the bird, as well as a pair of curved legs along the underside; a broad spout rises up near the top of the shoulder. Size: 4.5" L x 6.125" W x 8.2" H (11.4 cm x 15.6 cm x 20.8 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired with restoration near spout rim. Losses to both lateral wings as shown. Abrasions and fading to pigment, with one large hairline fissure along the body, and areas of fire-darkening and earthen deposits. Nice preservation to abstract zoomorphic form.
