Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished brownware pottery mask of tall, tapered form with a concave verso. The convex face presents with a pair of curved eyes as well as a curved mouth displaying a slight grin, a sharply angled nose with a pointed tip, and perforated ear lobes, all beneath a broad forehead and slender eyebrows. Additional perforations along the top and bottom peripheries show how this mask was attached to the face of a deceased individual; this was likely intended as a burial mask. Size: 3" L x 6.1" W x 8.5" H (7.6 cm x 15.5 cm x 21.6 cm)
