Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery standing figure of a flat, rigid form known as a 'gingerbread' figure. The individual stands atop spread legs, wears a striped garment, and holds both lengthy arms down to bent knees. The elongated head features impressed eyes, a prominent nose, a gently curved mouth, and tab-shaped ears ornamented with earrings, all beneath a lightly striated headband. Size: 4" W x 8.1" H (10.2 cm x 20.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

  • Condition: Repair to left hip with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to limbs, body, and face, with fading to original pigment. Nice smooth surfaces and light remains of pigment throughout.
