Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of a woman standing atop delineated legs and gently arched feet. Her flat form - known as a 'gingerbread' figure - enables her weight to be evenly distributed so she stands upright unassisted. She wears a finely striated loincloth, paired bangles on her biceps, an intricate necklace, and a thick headband adorned with incised curvilinear motifs. Remains of red-orange pigment visible on the necklace suggest just how intricately this figure was painted at one time. Size: 5.8" W x 8.25" H (14.7 cm x 21 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
