Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fabulous figural ocarina, nicely modeled with a standing figure donning large earspools, a caplike headdress with shell-like appliques, a tumpline wrapped around the rim to assist him in carrying the large vessel on his back, otherwise nude with pronounced genitalia, his expressive face comprised of coffee-bean shaped eyes, a pointy nose, and puckered lips as if whistling while he works. Size: 4.5" H (11.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Private collection of Morton Schiowitz, Geneva, Switzerland then New York, acquired in 1960s while living in Switzerland and then by descent to present owner.
