Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Definitely a conversation starter: a hollow pottery figure that functions as a whistle and is dominated by an enormous phallus. Although the man is posed standing, he may have originally been made to lie down, with one hand on the side of his head as he turns left. Crowned by a crested helmet, he is elaborately adorned with a ball player's yoke held in place by 3 decorated suspenders. Every impression is given that this is a wealthy and powerful - in more ways than one - man. Size: 2.5" L x 3.3" W x 5.1" H (6.4 cm x 8.4 cm x 13 cm)

Provenance: private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection; ex-R.G. Munn Auction, Cloudcroft, New Mexico, USA, acquired in March 2010
