Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Pihuamo type, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hollow-built and stone-burnished redware pottery figure depicting a nude elderly woman sitting with both legs folded to one side. She holds both hands in front of her lap while leaning forward with her pronouncedly hunched back, and her face maintains a pleasant expression, perhaps as if telling a story; the wrinkled skin on her chest provides insight to her advanced age. Size: 8.75" L x 7.75" W x 11.25" H (22.2 cm x 19.7 cm x 28.6 cm)

Provenance: private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection; ex-Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired April 2013
