Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Autlan type, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A wonderful pottery figure with traditional Autlan type characteristics of a flattened buff body, almond-shaped delineated eyes, a pointed nose, and a petite mouth, slightly open to expose teeth. Seated cross-legged, the figure places both hands on his knees with one grasping a ceremonial implement as raised pellets adorn his shoulders. He wears a loincloth, several collar necklaces, annular earspools, an incised headband, and a helmet-like headdress with a horn rising from one side. His openwork ears may have once suspended lavish ornaments of plumage, shells, and stones. Size: 5.6" W x 7.4" H (14.2 cm x 18.8 cm)
