Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 600 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of a minimalist form with a hemispherical body resting atop a protruding circular foot. The highly burnished bowl bears a cream-hued ground accentuated with areas of brown and orange-red pigment. Within the center of the basin is a stylized avian creature presenting large, clawed feet, a semicircular body lined with petite spines, and a raised head with a slender beak and a discoid eye. Size: 6.1" W x 2.25" H (15.5 cm x 5.7 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple pieces with restoration along some missing areas and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Light abrasions to surfaces along exterior and within basin. Nice preservation to avian motif within basin.
