Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 600 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of stable, round-bottomed form with a light-orange ground hue that is densely adorned with ample black and red pigment. The feathered creature features a pair of petite eyes, a tapered beak, and a circular head profile, all atop a squat neck. Size: 8.5" L x 7.7" W x 7.375" H (21.6 cm x 19.6 cm x 18.7 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 340. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
