Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 500 CE. An incredibly rare stone carving of a coiled snake with a large head slightly lifted forward, featuring protruding eyes, indented nostrils, and visible fangs. The body is incised with concentric circles, and the center of the coils forms a shallow dish. The piece balances on the rounded tip of the tail, allowing the snake to rock forward while remaining stable. At first glance, one expects this to be pottery, but this is a solid mottled red stone with black inclusions throughout. Size: 10" L x 7" W x 3.75" H (25.4 cm x 17.8 cm x 9.5 cm)
