Description:

United States, 1857 to 1860s CE. This is a long iron socket training bayonet, with a locking ring and zig-zag slot (the technical term!). This type of socket bayonet was used for training on .58 caliber rifle-muskets produced by the Springfield Armory and private contractors. The end is curved into a circle to prevent accidental stabbings. This particular item is in excellent shape compared to others I have seen. Size: 19.1" L x 2.35" W (48.5 cm x 6 cm)
