Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, Late Formative Period, ca. 800 to 400 BCE. A hand-built and highly-burnished pottery vessel of an attractive form displaying a figure lying prone atop a rectangular base. The figure lays on its wide abdomen with head raised high, arms held tightly against the sides, and thick legs draped off the verso. Slit-form eyes and mouth, a petite nose, tab-shaped ears, and a wide brow compose the serene visage, and the head is topped with a simple cap. Lovely red and orange pigment adorn the figural vessel and make this a fine example of ancient Chorrera artistry! Size: 5.875" L x 2.5" W x 4.2" H (14.9 cm x 6.4 cm x 10.7 cm).
