Description:

East Asia, China, Neolithic Period, Majiayao culture, ca. 3300 to 2000 BCE. A splendid pottery jar showcasing hand-painted linear designs in black pigments along its upper half. Sitting at a slight slant that grants it a lovely bit of character, the ancient vessel presents a narrow base and sturdy walls that spread outwards to a wide, bulbous shoulder and then narrow to an attenuated neck and a flared rim. A pair of loop-form handles flank the shoulder. Size: 11.4" W x 12" H (29 cm x 30.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
