East Asia, Western Han Dynasty, ca. 200 BCE. A tall, hollow-cast pottery tomb attendant with a simple yet attractive design. It stands in profile, with one arm hanging at its side and the other bent upwards towards a bulbous head. The long vestment is painted in creamy white and rich brown hues, and the white skirt extends to cover the bottom. The face is painted in a faded orange color, and small remnants of black pigments denoting the eyes rest above a slight protruding nose. Size: 9.75" H (24.8 cm).
