East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A fine mold-made pottery horse head displaying a lively visage with bulging eyes, a pronounced snout with flared nostrils, and an open mouth revealing his teeth and likely neighing, all crested by a neatly manicured mane. Liberal remains of black, white, and red pigments grace the surface. Size: 1.8" W x 5.6" H (4.6 cm x 14.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
