Description:

East Asia, China, Western Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A handsome polychrome cocoon vase presenting a hollow egg-shape, balanced on a flared foot with a flared spout rising from the center of the upper body. The surface is decorated with patterns of swirling, celestial cloud motifs in sienna brown and white hues that were painted after firing and are not protected by a glaze. Such vessels were most likely used to store and serve precious liquids such as wine. In addition to being emblems of status and wealth, ultimately, these vessels became funerary offerings for the afterlife. A gorgeous example that presents an elegant silhouette of graceful curves! Size: 12" L x 7" W x 10.5" H (30.5 cm x 17.8 cm x 26.7 cm)
