Description:

China, Han Dynasty, ca. 202 BCE to 220 CE. Very finely carved "Bi" disc of almost celadon green nephrite jade. Circular form with large central hole hundreds of small raised "commas" certainly some representation of the heavens, with small ridge at center on each side. It has been determined that these wonderful Bi discs represent the heavens whereas the more stout Congs represent the Earth. Size: 4.375" W (11.1 cm)

Provenance: private Brighton, Massachusetts, USA collection acquired in Hong Kong in 1992 with photo of the receipt
