Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu/Inca, ca. 1470 to 1520 CE. A mold-formed blackware pottery vessel with an integral base foot, an ovoid body, a stirrup-shaped handle, and a cylindrical spout with a flared rim, all demonstrating both Chimu and Incan influences. The highly-burnished vessel depicts a stylized avian figure, perhaps a parrot or eagle, and has a rounded head projecting from one side with ringed eyes and an aquiline beak. Both sides of the handle exhibit curving, pattern-molded registers of tumi-headed feline figures. Size: 3.5" W x 6.875" H (8.9 cm x 17.5 cm).
