Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A wood scepter handle or finial featuring an electrum cap with dangling ornaments - the electrum with a gold quality of 72.55% and 23.6% silver. The wood is carved with stepped geometric motifs that are found throughout their textiles and stylized zoomorphs that resemble crouching felines. Perhaps this piece was used to embellish a scepter or another ritualistic implement and a lustrous coffee-hued patina has developed across the entire surface of this handsome carving. Size: 5" L x 1" W (12.7 cm x 2.5 cm); 8" H (20.3 cm) on included custom stand; gold quality: 72.55% (equivalent to 17K+); silver: 23.6%
