Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A mold-formed blackware pottery vessel with two spherical chambers. The vessel rests upon a pair of round but stable bases and features abstract, low relief zoomorphic figures presented amongst fields of stippling. The rectangular handle is suspended between two cylindrical spouts, features openwork geometric motifs, and creates a pathway for blown air to flow out of the stylized parrot 'tone hole.' When played, the whistle creates a high-pitched note that is easily audible. Size: 8.2" L x 4.25" W x 6.25" H (20.8 cm x 10.8 cm x 15.9 cm).
