Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1250 to 1450 CE. A mold-made blackware pottery jar with a rounded base, angled shoulders decorated with pattern-molded stepped, stippled, and spiraled motifs, a flared rim and wide mouth, and a pair of petite strap handles. The highly-burnished body exhibits a lustrous jet-black hue, giving it a characteristic appearance of the ancient Chimu! Size: 5.25" W x 3.875" H (13.3 cm x 9.8 cm).

  • Condition: Vessel repaired from multiple large pieces with some small areas of restoration and resurfacing, overpainting, and light adhesive residue along break lines. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small nicks to rim, body, and base, with fading to black color in some areas. Light earthen deposits throughout.
