Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chavin culture, ca. 1000 to 500 BCE. A hand-carved stone mace head with six rows of knobs protruding from the exterior. The stone presents with nice mottled green-black hues and a rounded elongated "pineapple" shape created by the carved knobs. An opening is hand-drilled vertically from both ends through the stone's center for attaching this mace head. A lethal weapon that ensures maximum damage with the carved sides, it was also likely used to demonstrate authority when carried during ceremonies. Size: 1.75" W x 1.875" H (4.4 cm x 4.8 cm); 2.25" H (5.7 cm) on included custom stand.
