Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan, ca. 1050 to 1225 CE. A charming black-on-white pottery cup with a small handle and geometric motifs. The cup rests on a flat base with thick walls rising upward to a circular opening. The exterior is painted with two registers of black interlocking linear shapes on a white ground, and the handle features thin, horizontal stripes. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi culture and included both utilitarian and decorative pieces that could be traded with neighboring communities for food or other goods. Anasazi pottery was made by hand coiling clay, then smoothing the surface and painting with designs before firing. This petite cup is a lovely example created via this technique! Size: 3.5" W x 3.65" H (8.9 cm x 9.3 cm)
