Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater depicting a charming canine in a recumbent position. The dog rests with retracted legs and has a bulbous posterior with a curly tail, a smooth chest, and a tapering head with a squat snout and hanging ears. The composition is painted with dark-red pigment and was designed to have a sharp grating tool protruding from the mouth. Size: 13" L x 5" W x 6.625" H (33 cm x 12.7 cm x 16.8 cm)
