Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A tightly woven brown ground panel made from fine cotton threads with spider motifs. The spiders are embroidered into the panel in hues of red and yellow. The abdomens have a checkered pattern and their thorax have a circular marking in the opposite color of their bodies. The textile is mounted on a modern paper backing. Size (textile): 11.25" L x 11.25" W (28.6 cm x 28.6 cm); (paper backing): 12.75" L x 13" W (32.4 cm x 33 cm)

Provenance: private Plano, Texas, USA collection, inherited from father in the 1990's
