Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built doll with bound plant fibers comprising the interior body, limbs, and head, and colorful fragments of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers constituting the clothing, 'skin,' and hair. The figure wears a flowing tunic across the body in cream, blue-grey, and beige colors with geometric motifs, and the head boasts circular eyes, yellow teeth beneath intersecting facial streaks, and red cheek panels. The wild coiffure is bound with a fuchsia-hued headband and features wild strands of gold thread on the front and brown thread on the verso. A fine figurative example from ancient Peru!
