Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A beautiful textile section composed of tightly-woven natural cotton or camelid (alpaca or llama) fibers in hues of cream, beige, fuchsia, and almond brown. The textile's composition presents running zigzag registers woven in cream, beige, and almond brown with abstract animals - perhaps coatimundis or monkeys - seated in profile with spotted coats, long tails, and singular eyes staring out at the viewer against a spotted ground, and narrower parallel fuchsia, almond brown, and cream borders. Sewn to a white woven mount attached to stretchers. Size: 14.875" W x 18.25" H (37.8 cm x 46.4 cm); (frame): 19.9" W x 21.9" H (50.5 cm x 55.6 cm)
