Description:

Central Europe, Bronze Age, ca. 10th to 7th century BCE. A fascinating heavy white bronze ceremonial axe head with a wide, round socket, and a broad, crescent-shaped blade edge. Beautifully cast and with a smooth surface, this is a rare bronze alloy and would have belonged to someone powerful within the society, probably made to be placed into his or her grave. Size: 5.9" L (15 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
