Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, ca. 1100 to 1350 CE. An intriguing triangular mortar that is hand-carved from porous stone which makes it both lightweight and functional. The deep mortar basin is incredibly smooth from countless uses, and the sturdy mortar features one smooth side and one side with a trio of protruding nubs. Size (mortar): 8.625" L x 8.4" W x 2.9" H (21.9 cm x 21.3 cm x 7.4 cm); (pestle): 1.8" L x 1.7" W x 3.6" H (4.6 cm x 4.3 cm x 9.1 cm)
