Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Paquime/Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. A lovely coil-formed pottery jar of a sizable form with a hemispheric base, a bulging midsection, gently tapering walls, a deep interior cavity, and a lightly-flared rim. The exterior is decorated with a fine-line register of triangular, linear, curvilinear, stepped, and spiral motifs in hues of black and red, all atop a cream-hued ground. Ramos, as a stylistic designation, is used when red-hued painted forms are outlined in black. The most exceptional Casas Grandes vessels usually have Ramos-style designs, and examples such as this explicate how this style required great skill and aesthetic vision. Size: 8.7" W x 8.25" H (22.1 cm x 21 cm).
