Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A hand-built parrot vessel of redware pottery construction that exhibits a series of incised striations across the body that are suggestive of feathers. The avian head features protruding eyes with impressed pupils, a thick neck, and a massive beak that curves forward; a pair of nostrils are impressed atop the beak. Size: 7.625" L x 7" W x 5.2" H (19.4 cm x 17.8 cm x 13.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-private USA collection, acquired before 2000 from noted dealer Robert Anderson, Mason City, Iowa, USA; all items from this collection have been appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014
