Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1060 to 1340 CE. A pleasing pottery olla featuring a round yet stable base and sloped walls that taper to a flared rim, all enveloped in creamy beige slip with black and orange abstract motifs. Intricately hand-painted, the mesmerizing decoration consists of lattice, geometric, linear, and nested designs. The Casas Grandes culture has always been the best known of the prehistoric cultures of northwest Mexico. International awareness of the culture first derived from its polychrome pottery and from the massive ruins of the culture's principal center, Casas Grandes - also known as Paquime.     Condition:
  • Professionally repaired and restored with repainting in areas; all done very well and difficult to notice. Some light surface wear, but otherwise, excellent presentation with good pigments and detail. Old collection labels on underside of base.
