Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia / Ecuador, Carchi-Narino region, ca. 750 to 1500 CE. A hand-built terracotta figural vessel with a flat base, cylindrical body, and a spherical upper portion with a top perforation. The red-orange body displays a pair of sinuous arms wrapped just above two stylized feet and delineated female genitalia, and faint geometric motifs in a black hue indicate tattooing or scarification lines. The head displays slit-form eyes, a petite nose, cupped and full lips drawn into a slight smile, with a raised rim separating face from fill hole. A wonderful example! Size: 9.25" H (23.5 cm).
