Description:

Magna Graecia, Apulian, Canosan, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A hand-modeled and painted votive head of a female, perhaps representing a goddess, with generously lidded eyes, arched brows, a naturalistic nose, and gently smiling lips topped by a centrally-parted plaited coiffure. The surface still shows remains of pink and white pigmentation, as well as some blue notes on the eyes. A lovely piece of Canosan visual culture. Size: 3.1" W x 4" H (7.9 cm x 10.2 cm); 5.1" H (13 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection; ex-Arte Xibalba, Sarasota, Florida, USA; ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA
