Description:

Ancient Near East, Byzantium, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A lovely gilded, solid silver seal comprised of 95% silver - presenting a conical form with an incised bird standing in profile on the circular face surrounded by a dotted field. A suspension loop at the opposite end makes it possible to wear this seal as a pendant. In ancient times, the stamp seal was necessary to sign off on documents and to legally give one's mark. A lovely example with an attractive design and a warm glowing patina. Size: .7" in diameter x .875" H (1.8 cm x 2.2 cm). Precious metal quality: 95% silver, gilding is 1% gold. Weight: 16 grams.
