Description:

Near East/Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. One of my favorites, a heavy, handsome silver alloy ring (69% silver) decorated with thin, roughly 22 karat gold sheet. The ring itself is thick, with the bezel large and round, its sides adorned with eight gold crosses. The face of the bezel has a cross motif with a raised silver boss at the center and gold sheet forming the arms. A border of gold within a border of silver completes the face. Size: 1" W (2.5 cm); US ring size 7.25; 14.5 grams
