Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A large, round-bottomed bronze bowl with a pair of arching handles stemming from circular floral appliques. The interior and exterior walls are embellished with four horizontal pinstripe bands, as well as one encircling the base. The vessel has a deep interior cavity, and a flattened lip lines the upper perimeter of the rim. Areas of the original bronze are still visible, though much of the surface is enveloped in thick layers of light-green, dark-green, and russet-hued patina. Vessels like these were used for everything from table serving to ceremonial offerings and much more. This is a gorgeous example of fine Roman-era bronze-work! Size: 11.375" W x 3.5" H (28.9 cm x 8.9 cm).
