Description:

Central Asia, Siberia, Early Pliocene to Early Holocene, probably from the earlier part of this spectrum, ca. 5 million years ago to 5000 years ago. A fine, fossilized example of a mammoth tooth. The original chemicals of the teeth have been replaced in the fossilization process with quartz (silica) and other minerals, giving it a haunting blue-grey color that calls to mind the Ice Age. Mammoth teeth are highly specialized, some of the largest grinding teeth in the animal kingdom, adapted to crush woody vegetable matter in ancient forests. Size: 6.5" W x 5.5" H (16.5 cm x 14 cm); 7.3" H (18.5 cm) on included custom stand.
