Description:

Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A sizable vessel hand-carved from creamy yellow alabaster with streaks of white veining throughout the composition. It has a slightly-rounded but stable base, a corseted body, a deep interior cavity, and a plateaued rim. The interior cavity has been carefully carved-out and tapers towards the concave bottom. Alabaster is a material prized by sculptors because of how its relative softness enables it to be readily and intricately carved. Size: 4.625" W x 4.3" H (11.7 cm x 10.9 cm).
